| The Basic RiderCourse is aimed at beginning riders of all ages. A minimum of five hours classroom instruction prepares the student for at least ten hours of practical riding in a controlled, off-street environment, typically a parking lot. Motorcycles and helmets are included in your course fee (if any). Most motorcycles used in the course are loaned by local dealers. |
| In this course, you'll learn how to operate a motorcycle safely, with a lot of emphasis on the special skills and mental attitude necessary for dealing with traffic. Your RiderCoaches are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. They'll start you off with straight-line riding, turning, shifting and stopping. You'll gradually progress to cornering, swerving and emergency braking. In the classroom you'll learn about the different types of motorcycles, their controls, and how they operate. The RiderCoaches, all experienced motorcyclists, will advise you on what to wear for comfort and protection. You'll find out how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to ride safely. A very important segment of the course will show you how to create your own strategy for riding in traffic, and dealing with critical situations.
The course concludes with a knowledge test and skill evaluation. You'll smile with satisfaction as the RiderCoach hands you the course completion card. |

| is there a exam only option? |
 |
| Yes! If you are at least 21 years of age and already know how to ride, A & M Motorcycle Safety Course offers riders the Third Party (Alternate Most) Motorcycle Knowledge test and Skill Exercise for $50. A & M Motorcycle Safety Course State Certified examiners can administer the motorcycle test at our state approved facility. This test can be taken on the rider's personal motorcycle after an equipment and protective gear check or on a A & M Motorcycle Safety Course owned motorcycle. This is an official state examination and no coaching of any kind can take place. If your skills aren't quite up to par and you don't pass both parts of the exam, you will get a $25 credit towards the Basic Rider Course!
You are allowed one retake on the written test the same day (the retake will cost an additional $10.00, we have to be pay this to the state). You are “not” allowed to retake the riding test the same day. You will have to come back for this, and will have to repay the same amount again.
Once you pass the test(s), you will then take the Certificate (that we issue to you), your Drivers License, and your learners permit (if applicable) to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles). DMV will automatically add you’re Endorsement to your License. You do not have to take any more tests. |

| You'll discuss with your peers how to balance the mental and physical aspects of safe riding, manage risk, increase visibility and optimize your lane position. |
| The Experienced RiderCourse' also covers protective gear, rider responsibility, motorcycle inspection and care, the effects of alcohol and other drugs on riding, and includes an optional skill evaluation and knowledge test. |
| Using your own motorcycle, you'll put into practice the techniques of managing traction, stopping quickly, cornering and swerving. |
| To qualify for participation in the ERC, you must be 21 years of age or older and have a temporary motorcycle permit or endorsement on your driver's license. Riders must provide a street-legal bike that passes a safety inspection (T-clocs). Students must also provide proof of liability insurance and proof of ownership of the motorcycle. If the motorcycle is not owned by the rider, a notarized, written approval from the owner to use the motorcycle in the course must be provided. |
